The Lobster and the Golden-eyed Boy

The wall is green.
The trees are green.
The birds sing green.
On a winter morning,
when the winds are low,
the cat is fascinated to see
a hand shaped like a claw.

His golden eyes
look through the green,
in search
of this sand-colored lobster.
The claw poked through
to capture him,

emerging victorious
over the golden-eyed boy.

An army of ants
paid quiet watch
as the cat escaped
into the green
while the proud hand
laughed
boisterously over his victory.

Then, when the sun went down,
the boastful hand,
the fallen leaves,
the smell of short rain,
and grains of dust
got swept away
by the mighty dark.

The golden boy,
sat on a high wall. He
watched his world transform,
as it did each night.
And with a large, loud yawn,
he called out to the sun
and hoped for imminent victory
as the same day began again.
